02 / Problem

A familiar meal shouldn’t be hard to find or track.

Most food trackers make people translate Nigerian dishes into generic entries. akaani needed to connect familiar food, meal planning and tracking without making a nutritional estimate look like a fact.

My part

I designed the mobile experience across preferences, discovery, meal planning, tracking and Lu. These screens show design work, not proof that every feature has shipped or that the sample nutrition values are accurate.

Lead with familiar food

Give Nigerian meals their own names, imagery and detail pages.

People can recognise a dish first, then inspect ingredients and sample macros before logging.

Keep the log deliberate

Let people choose, review and add a meal to Track.

The empty, selection and logged states show what changed. The scan result also exposes ingredients for review.

Give Lu a clear place

Make conversation available on Home and in its own tab.

The prompt invites a question; search, meal planning and tracking remain direct paths.

Search keeps familiar names and food imagery together. A meal page then shows ingredients, serving controls and sample nutrition before any log action.

The design connects preferences, recommendations, discovery, tracking and Lu in one mobile journey. The reported figures show product reach and breadth; meal-logging completion and repeat use are the next outcomes to measure.

What I take forward

Cultural relevance belongs in the interaction as well as the imagery. Familiar names help people find a meal; review and confirmation make the tracking step more deliberate.
